For those that are new to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (MSFS 2020), you may not have heard of PMDG Simulations before. PMDG are one of, if not the most recognised and experienced business in Flight Simulation, creating aircraft for MSFS - their most well known or popular aircraft being the Boeing 737-800, which we are reviewing today.
So, what makes the PMDG Boeing 737-800 so good?
Physics
We have plenty of experience with the 737 to compare it with the default aircrafts on the simulator. The PMDG 737 offers a fantastic flying experience. From take off, to landing, to taxiing - everything seems extremely well put together. Many real world pilots have reviewed the aircraft, so don't just take it from us - go and check out some other YouTube reviews too!
Sound
Wow. Put the engines to TOGA and listen to the roaring CFM56 engines spool up. We have flown on many 737-800s in our time, and can 100% confirm that the sounds in the simulator virtually mimic real life.
Immersion
Until you have flown this aircraft yourself, you won't understand how immersive it really is. Jumping from this to the Asobo Airbus A320 NEO is like going from a Ferrari 488 to a Nissan Micra. Most of the buttons work, the sounds of the landing gear deploying, flaps, etc - and the work you actually have to put in to fly the plane. This is as good as it gets.
The bad points...
Holding Altitude
Occasionally, once you have reached cruising altitude - the pane can deviate by about 300ft. Now, this isn't a MAJOR flaw, but it is pretty annoying, especially if you plan to use the aircraft on the VATSIM Network
PMDG Boeing 737 Shared Cockpit
If you plan on flying this plane in a Shared Cockpit Setup, by using YourControls for example, we would advise against it, especially on the VATSIM Network. We have had a few issues with this aircraft in a Shared Cockpit. More information to come in a YouTube video. If you're messing around with a friend native in the simulator, rather than on VATSIM, then you won't notice too many problems.
Whilst we've got you, feel free to go and check out our YourControls Tutorials on Youtube!
